Makapu'u Tide Pools

The Makapu'u Tide Pools are a group of large tide pools that both locals and tourists come to in order to relax.  Located on the southeast corner of the island, the tide pools are a bit of a drive for those staying in "town."

Directions:
Take the H-1 East until you reach the Kalanianaole Highway. Continue on the Kalanianaole for a while.  You will pass Hanauma Bay and then Sandy's Beach Park.  Once you pass the golf course, keep an eye out for a right hand turn that leads into a longer road and eventually becomes a parking lot. Be careful, there are two parking lots that are very close to one another, you want to go into the first one.  After parking, find the paved road which is at the end of the parking lot and follow it up the hill.  Once you reach the informational signs on whales (best time to see whales from the tide pools are during the winter months), which are on the ocean side of the mountain, go behind the signs and walk down the path to the tide pools.  There should be arrows spray painted in the rocks to guide you.  Warning: there are lots of loose rocks on this downhill section and it can be very steep.  Be careful when climbing down!
